VILEDA Microfiber Mops FAQ
Will the microfibers remove bacteria and viruses from any surface? What about hardwood floors?
Vileda’s microfiber mops are safe to use on most hard flooring surfaces including hardwood, tile and laminate. The laboratory has tested on two very common household flooring surfaces, prefinished hardwood flooring and ceramic tiles.
Does microfiber kill all bacteria and viruses?
VILEDA microfiber mops do not kill bacteria and viruses. They remove bacteria and viruses* from the floor with the use of just water. The tiny microfibers physically stick closely to the floor picking up dirt and over 99% of bacteria and viruses, and carry them away - without the need of harsh chemicals.
Will the microfiber mop pads disinfect my floors?
Fact: We successfully tested the removal of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Bovine Coronavirus, two common bacteria and one virus closely related to Coronavirus found in homes, and the microfibre removed both types of bacteria and the virus with just tap water.
Where do the bacteria and viruses go once I’ve picked it up?
The bacteria & viruses will be rinsed out of the mop head into the mop bucket and you will not bring them back on to your floors. The testing institute confirmed no recontamination when wiping a rinsed mop head onto a sterile surface.
Note: Bacteria & viruses are not killed by the microfibres. They go into the water and you need to pour out the water to remove them from your house. Our recommendation is to change the refill often, do not touch the refill with your hands (or without gloves) and wash your refill frequently. Bacteria & viruses will be killed in the washing machine (min 30º) using washing detergent.
Can I wash the microfiber mop heads – what about using fabric softener?
Avoid using fabric softener. It can coat the tiny microfibers, ultimately making them less effective. Once washed, lay flat to dry.
